Keeping on top of forthcoming changes to Gift Aid
If you have any individual major donors who typically give at around this time of year, you could benefit by letting them know about changes to Gift Aid which are looming.
Transitional relief provided by the HMRC to help boost Gift Aided donations when the basic rate of income tax fell from 22% to 20% in 2008 will expire on the 5th April this year.
At the moment a donation of £100 from an individual taxpayer to charity is worth £128.21 after Gift Aid including transitional relief. As from 6 April 2011, a donation of £100 will only be worth £125.
A charity will therefore benefit if it can persuade any of its individual donors - particularly major donors - to bring forward their giving into the current tax year.
